Wuhou District has a long history. For 3000 years, it had been the territory of ancient Shu Kingdom. It belonged to Shu Shire in Qin Dynasty, to Chengdu County, Shu Shire of Yizhou of Han in the Three Kingdoms, and under jurisdiction of Huangyang County and Shuangliu County of Yizhou in Tang Dynasty. This area was part of Chengdu Yamun, Huangyang County and Shuangliu County in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China (1912-1949).

In September 1990, the three city original districts including Dongcheng, Xicheng, Jinniu was regulated to the Jinjiang, Qingyang, Jinniu, Wuhou and Chenghua 5 districts through the authorized by State Department and approved by the People’s Government of Sichuan Province. In January 1991, the Wuhou district was formally established, composed of 10 street offices of Xiaotianzu St., Zhimin Rd., Wangjiang Rd., Jiangxi St., Tiaoshanta, Yulin, Sanwayao, Shiyangchang, Yongfengchang and Cuqiao and 4 villages of Guixi, Shiyangchang, Yongfengchang and Cuqiao.

May, 1996, the Shiyangchang and Guixi two villages and the street offices of Xiaojiahe and Fangcao St. were incorporated to the High-Tech industry development District, Chengdu, for the regulation on partial district of the Wuhou District and Shuangliu County made by the government of Sichuan Province. In June 1997, the Shuangnan street office was formally established. In March 2007, the former Cuqiao street office was divided from one to three parts as the previous 11 villages all were regulated to 3 new street offices. So, currently the Wuhou district governs 13 street offices of Jiangxi St., Wangjiang Rd., Yulin, Tiaoshanta, Huochenanzhan, Shuannan, Hongpailou, Jinyang, Cuqiao, Cujin, Huaxin, Jitouqiao and Jinghuaqiao etc.

Wuhou has relatively profound deposit on the interior culture, in which the Temple of Marquis Wu, Wangjiang Tower and Xue Tao Well and other interests and historic sites; therein the Temple of Marquis Wu is the most well-famous memorial site for Zhu Geliang and Liu Bei and the unique temple for joint sacrifice of emperor together with the minister, also as the museum of the Three Kingdoms historic site reputed in China. Wuhou District is the one committed in high-tech and culture oriented by the State Department, conferred with the “national advanced district of progress on science and technology” and “Sichuan advanced district of progress on science and technology” respectively by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2005. The whole district has Sichuan University and other 11 universities and colleges, about over 50 research institutions of central, provincial and city government, including Chengdu Branch of Science Institute of China, and over 26.6% of population with the degree no less than the college level to the total. As the national example city of science popularization, its well-known “street of science and technology” centralized at Moziqiao area where over 3,000 companies in developing and operating computer and its relevant products with over 30,000 practical personnel involved and sale total over RMB 10 billion, is the second large computer market as famous as Zhongguan Village, Beijing in China.
